The best rock clubs are like the worst girlfriends: loud, ugly, and really only fun when you're drunk. With this in mind, Annabell's is a real catch. Upstairs is a small neighborhood bar where friendly regulars knock back Buds. Downstairs is a small rock dive where not-so-friendly-sounding punks, rockers, and metalheads sweat up the joint at mostly free shows. Dimly lit, with the scent of Marlboros thick in the air and no real stage, the place looks kinda like a nicotine stain with a P.A. But if you want frills, go see Yanni at the Music Hall. Otherwise, man up and get down to one of the area's most overlooked clubs.
