Since it opened a year ago, Ultra has energized most every West Sixth club-hopper who tumbles into the club's dark, lush embrace. Tucked in the basement of Liquid, the space is anchored by a large, well-staffed bar. Leather couches and low-slung coffee tables flank the dance floor, and a raised VIP area overlooks the action and plays host to the occasional celeb (Kenny Lofton hung out this summer). The club, while Vegas-chic in design, wisely keeps a down-home vibe by letting everyone partake -- including, this summer, jerseyed Yankees and Red Sox fans. DJs expertly blend current and old-school hip-hop, pop, R&B, and whatever else they can find in their cupboard. It's a recipe for ass-shaking, and it works every time.
