Rock & Pop, Seasonal Special Happenings

Billy Bragg/Joe Purdy

When: Sun., Sept. 29, 8 p.m. 2013

Prolific for both his folk music and his political activism, Billy Bragg is an artist everyone should know. Tooth and Nail is his latest album, which should be heard in the run-up to tonight’s gig. Go back to 1990’s Talking With the Taxman About Poetry for the deeper reaches of his canonical catalog. In fact, pick up that album and toss it on the ol’ car stereo for your drive down to Kent tonight. The shiny melody of "Greetings to the New Brunette" is a charming way to start off an autumn evening with Mr. Bragg. Bonus points: His collaboration with Wilco on the Mermaid Avenue albums is must-hear stuff. “California Stars” will be your new best friend. (Sandy)
