Prepare for Black History Month by taking a look at the Allen Memorial Art Museum's Portraits of Black Experience, which features 20 pieces by African American painters. Artists like Richmond Barthé, Horace Pippin, and Kara Walker explore blacks' journeys in America — from 19th-century plantations to contemporary civil rights victories — through works that manage to transform singular incidents into triumphant statements spanning an entire race.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sundays, 1-5 p.m. Starts: Sept. 2. Continues through June 4
