Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears/Dams of the West

When: Thu., March 2, 9 p.m. 2017

Joe Lewis, frontman for the grunge-y classic soul and punked-up R&B band Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears, has come a long way from the days when he worked at an Austin pawn shop. The job might have sucked but it did give him the spare time to learn to play guitar. Lewis would first launch Black Joe Lewis and the Cool Breeze in 2005. That band became enough of a sensation that when Lewis created his current group, Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears, he instantly had a following. The group’s latest album, Backlash, represents a return to its grungier roots. The band has never sounded better and lays down a good groove on the album’s first single, the horn-driven “PTP.” Expect a rousing performance out of the group for tonight's gig. (Niesel)
