When two talented chefs square off for neighborhood bragging rights, things can get a little heated. At least, we're hoping for some hot fun during the upcoming Battle for Battery Park, Cleveland's first-ever comedy food fight pitting Chef Jeff James of Reddstone against Chef Dimitris Ragousis of Battery Park Wine Bar.
What, exactly, is a "comedy food fight?" According to Amanda Hicken at sponsoring NEO Food Tours, it's an evening of serious food seasoned with plenty of standup comedy.
"We're particularly excited that native Clevelander Maria Borgio is making a return to her hometown after performing her way across the United States," says Hicken. "She's been featured in numerous comedy festivals including the Las Vegas Comedy Festival, Boston Comedy Festival and New York Underground Comedy Festival, and last year taped her first comedy recording at Brothers Lounge."
Also bringing the funny: comedian Danny Kallas who hails from nearby Chicago and is a member of Comedians You Should Know, Chicago's home for cutting edge stand-up comedy.
Hosting the battle is local funny man Ramon Rivas II, founder of Cleveland's Chucklefck Comedy Show.
The food fight begins at Battery Park at 7 p.m. and then moves to Reddstone. Both Chef Jeff and Chef Dimitris will be creating three-course meals built around scallops, hanger steak, and chocolate. Assessing each dish will be a panel of three judges including Chef Chris Hodgson, Joy Roller from the Gordon Square Arts District, and yours truly — along with everyone else in attendance! The winning chef gets to claim the Amazing Technicolor Spatula (because golden trophies are so overdone) along with bragging rights until the rematch.
It all happens on Monday February 20. Tickets are an all-inclusive $55 at Eventbrite, where you can find a complete rundown of the evening's festivities.
