Bloodbath

Resurrection Through Carnage (Century Media)

by

Bloodbath makes ugly music, even by death metal standards. The band's second record is one of the rawest releases of the year thus far. Composed of moonlighting members of Opeth, Katatonia, and Edge of Sanity, Bloodbath makes music that has little or nothing to do with the music on those other groups' more complex records.

Instead, Bloodbath's songs are primal blasts, built on a foundation of ripping guitar and ultra-distorted, loud-as-hell bass lines. But even as it thrashes its way to hell, Bloodbath recognizes the importance of rocking out. So while the group's lyrics may be brutal and violent, the groove it sets up is propulsive and physical, leading Bloodbath down the path laid out by acts like Grave and Entombed a decade ago. This is a band that leaves you wanting more. Highly recommended.
