Built Like a Schlitz Brickhouse

Slavic Village watering hole pours a tall mug of beer on the cheap.

As gallons of gas and milk creep to the $4 mark, the Brickhouse feels the pain in your pocketbook at its daily Crazy Hour, when domestic brew runs a mere buck a bottle. For co-owner Chuck Colletti, the deal has breathed new life into the recently rehabbed watering hole, with its new take-no-shit attitude. "We had never owned a bar and decided to get our feet wet with this endeavor. We basically gutted the property and cleaned up all the problems," he says. "This is not a low-end spot."If you can splurge on top-of-the-line brews, the club also offers 60 types of imports. "We want people to know that there is an eclectic section here, and that they don't have to drive all over the place to find it," says Colletti. "Word of mouth has been everything."The bar has started to give back to its patrons with monthly raffles of sports jerseys and $200 gas cards. Buy a beer, and you get a chance at the drawing. "With all the bullshit going on with gas, we knew people certainly would love it," says Colletti. Crazy Hour runs from 6 to 7 tonight at the Brickhouse Bar & Grill, 5504 Harvard Avenue in Slavic Village. Admission is free. Call 216-206-0501.
Starts: May 26. Daily, 6-7 p.m., 2008
