The indie statesmen from Boise, Idaho, are among the most downright consistent bands of the last 20 years. And much like their studio output, Built to Spill’s stage presence is simply remarkable. Bordering on jam band territory, the band infuses their winding rock tunes with so much verve and mystery. Frontman Doug Martsch is a wonder to behold. He’s also a brilliant lyricist. Take a look at the words strewn about nearly any song in the band’s catalog; Martsch knows his way around pent-up emotion and longing. The last time they were in Cleveland, they threw down a torrent of classics like “Distopian Dream Girl” and “Carry the Zero,” infusing each with mind-blowing riffs and multifaceted layers of melody. You should go check 'em out. (Sandy)
