Can You Feel the Love Tonight?

The Cleveland Pops - with help from some Canadians - pays tribute to Sir Elton

by

For tonight's program, The Music of Elton John, the Cleveland Pops Orchestra will lend the Rocket Man's career some class with violins, cellos, and other stringed instruments. The orchestra will be joined onstage by Canadian quartet Jeans 'N Classics, a revolving rock band formed 12 years ago to back orchestras that feel like letting down their hair and rocking out. "The idea is to get the orchestra very involved, not to be backup or in the background," says Jeans 'N Classics founder Peter Brennan. "They're very much front and center, along with the band."

The band has performed material from Queen, the Beatles, and the Who. Tonight's program features many of John's standards, including "Tiny Dancer," "Rocket Man," and "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road." "There's so much potential for imaginations to run wild," says Brennan. And whether it's Sir Elton's piano ballads or the thundering cock-rock of Led Zeppelin, Brennan says the thrill remains the same: "It's a great musical rush. Everyone appreciates a wide spectrum of sounds." Music starts at 8 p.m. at Severance Hall, 11001 Euclid Avenue. Tickets are $10 to $62; call 216-231-1111. — By Michael Gallucci
