Carlos Jones and the P.L.U.S. Band/Jah Messengers

When: Wed., Dec. 26, 9 p.m. 2012

Roots reggae rocker Carlos Jones puts forth a positive vibe in his music, which he says is inspired by a slew of different reggae acts, each of which offers something on the spiritual side. “Well, aside from Marley, I’ve always enjoyed the music of Culture, one of the founding roots bands out of Jamaica,” he says when asked about his influences. “I like Burning Spear and Jimmy Cliff and newcomers like Luciano, who carry on in that spiritual tradition of messages. I like Bushman and Morgan Heritage. These are acts that have just as much power and talent as any of the founding groups. There are roots reggae bands all over the world. You find them in Japan and Germany. Marley was like Johnny Appleseed, dropping seeds of the message that have sprouted up in every corner of the world you can find.” For 30 years now, Jones has been to Cleveland what Marley was to Jamaica. He’s a real leader with the chops and songwriting skills to back up his impeccable rep. (Jeff Niesel)
