A Broadway heroine's signature song inspires today's performance of We Need A Little Christmas by the Cleveland Pops Orchestra. That's because conductor Carl Topilow dubbed the holiday show after his favorite tune from Mame. "It expresses this wonderful spirit for the holidays," he says. "We expect the audience to burst into song."Clear your throats, gang. The orchestra's fifth-annual holiday concert is loaded with well-known Christmas tunes woven into a program of carols sung by Cincinnati Pops baritone Daniel Narducci, who recently played Mercutio in the Cleveland Opera production of Romeo and Juliet. He's also logged stage time on Broadway and with several orchestras across the country. "He is really phenomenal," says Topilow. "When I saw him perform in Colorado last year, it was amazing."The orchestra will also accompany the audience in a traditional sing-along, with Topilow grabbing his red-white-and-blue clarinet to toot Leroy Anderson's jazz hit, "Clarinet Candy." "The holidays are about being together with people you love, with your family and friends," says Topilow. "We can't wait to share this happiness through our music." We Need a Little Christmas is at 2 this afternoon at the Palace Theatre, 1615 Euclid Avenue. Tickets are $10 to $35. Call 216-765-7677 or visit www.clevelandpops.com.
