El Grande: The Music of Alan Grandy (Sound of the Sea)

Alan Grandy has been playing in Cleveland bands for more than 30 years. El Grande pays tribute to the singer and songwriter with 19 songs from his solo career as well as from his stint with the Terrible Parade and his most recent work with Sputnik. Compiled by fans, the album works its way chronologically backward, so that the more accessible Sputnik tracks give way to Grandy's introspective solo material before eventually turning to the dark and moody Terrible Parade songs, with influences ranging from Joy Division to the Smiths to the Meat Puppets along the way. El Grande is a fitting retrospective and a preview of things to come from one of the city's best unsung heroes. — Ben Gifford
