If you’re dreading Santa’s Village displays popping up in malls by October, you’re way behind Gina DeSantis. The Lakewood-based ceramicist started building up her holiday inventory last month. “It’s kind of weird when it’s 80 or 90 degrees out and you’re carving snowflake ornaments,” says DeSantis. To make room for her Christmas inventory, the artist is hosting a one-night sale in her Lake Erie Building studio, selling more than 200 of her handmade pieces at clearance prices. In all her works, DeSantis strives to combine everyday usefulness with a unique and appealing aesthetic. Serving ware, cups, coasters, and other items are priced between $5 and $25 — which is between 25 and 75 percent off DeSantis’ regular prices. DeSantis says some of the discounts are due to superficial flubs. “There are minor flaws,” admits the artist. “They don’t affect the function, but they annoy the perfectionist in me,” However, there’s no accounting for tastes. “In some pieces, I tried a new glaze and didn’t really like it, but the customers loved it.” They’re up for sale too. Find what you’ll love tonight from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Gina DeSantis Ceramics, Studio C328. The Lake Erie Building is at 13000 Athens Ave.
