Chris Crossin'

Avant-garde script pokes fun at the discoverer of the U.S.A.

In Christopher Columbus (or Did You Say Sphere?), the 15th-century voyager crosses paths with a 1940s news reporter, a modern-day U.S. senator, and the Italian femme fatale Lucrezia Borgia while on his journey. The offbeat play is Michel de Ghelderode's 90-minute satire, farce, and vaudevillian extravaganza all rolled into one. "You know how Monty Python will take historical characters and spoof them up," says Greg Cesear, artistic director of Cesear's Forum's theater troupe. "This isn't as silly as that, but it's absurd, funny, and amusingly odd." The curtain rises at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 3 p.m. Sundays through December 16 at Kennedy's Down Under, 1501 Euclid Avenue. Tickets are $15. Call 216-241-6000 or visit
Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 3 p.m. Starts: Nov. 24. Continues through Dec. 16, 2007
