Take the kids to Hale Farm & Village this weekend for a firsthand look at Ohio’s largest Civil War encampment. Designed to provide a taste of living history, the encampment includes more than 500 costumed reenactors, 50 horses, and plenty of slices of soldiering life circa 1862. Among them: simulated battles, a visit from the U.S. Cavalry, and a cannon-firing demo by the Ohio Light Artillery Battery A. The weekend-long happenings kick off Friday with a 6 p.m. lantern tour of the Union and Confederate camps, complete with stops for storytelling, traditional battle songs, and food samplings. The history lesson winds up on Sunday night with a Civil War Reenactment Ball. Advance reservations are required for some events, including tonight’s $25 lantern tour. (Visit the website for related information.) General admission is $10 for adults or $5 for kids; snag your tix online or at the gate.
