A veteran indie filmmaker who's known for blending formats and working with alt-rock musicians, New York-based filmmaker Jem Cohen has built quite a resume over the past 20 years. During that time, he's worked with bands such as R.E.M., Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Blonde Redhead and Fugazi. His latest movie, Counting, is equal parts film diary and essay film and includes footage from New York, Moscow and Istanbul. It screens at 6:30 tonight at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque. Tickets are $9. (Niesel)
