Culture Jamming

The top picks for your shelves this week

This arty, existential video game (available for the PlayStation 3) is unlike any you've ever played. No weapons are drawn, no goal is laid out, and no words are spoken. Instead, your hooded character wanders an endless desert, stopping along the way to explore artifacts, temples, and random bits of debris floating in the air. Eventually you may encounter other players on your spiritual journey. One of the year's best.

Jay Farrar, Will Johnson, Anders Parker, Yim Yames: New Multitudes

Like his former Uncle Tupelo bandmate Jeff Tweedy, Farrar digs into Woody Guthrie's unpublished notebooks for inspiration for a new set of compositions recorded with some singer-songwriter pals (including My Morning Jacket's Jim James, using his goofy alias). The result isn't as revelatory as Wilco's Mermaid Avenue collaboration with Billy Bragg, but there's plenty of heart here.

God Bless Ozzy Osbourne

(Eagle Rock)

Osbourne's son had a hand in this new documentary, but that doesn't mean he holds back on the seedier parts of his dad's life. Family members talk about what a lousy father he was, industry insiders recall the time he bit the head off a live dove, and everyone has something to say about his fabled drug and alcohol abuse. Ozzy himself even owns up to many of the stories … when he can remember them.

The Human Centipede 2 (Full Sequence)

The first movie was one of the most buzzed of 2010. The followup could do only one thing to top it: attach more bodies, face to ass, in its quest to gross out moviegoers. The shock has somewhat worn off this time around, but the moody black-and-white cinematography certainly adds to the creep factor. And yes, the 12-person human centipede is something to marvel, in its own disquieting, repulsive way.

LittleBigPlanet 2 Muppets DLC

Just in time for The Muppets home-video release comes a whole bunch of add-ons for one of the PlayStation 3's best games. There are a couple of costume packs for you to outfit your Sackboy as Kermit, Fozzie, Animal, or even those two cranky old guys who criticize everything. There's also a new Muppets level, loaded with games, collectibles, trophies, and even more costumes.
