Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad (CVSR) will be celebrating its 40th Anniversary of providing passenger rail service through the Cuyahoga Valley with a special event September 8, 2012. The event will showcase the modern day CVSR and pay respect to the heritage of the railroad, with the beginnings dating beyond 1972 to the Valley Railway in 1880. The event will start with a train ride, departing from either the Akron Northside Station, or from the Rockside Station in Independence. Hors d’ oeuvres and beverages will be served at both stations prior to departure. Guests will be taken to Hale Farm & Village for an evening of entertainment, including the St. Ignatius Jugglers and Magicians, the Hermit Club Trio, River City Jazz Band, and The Soul Men will perform. There will also be five different food stations and open bars throughout the event site, private showings of exhibits and a live auction. Trains will depart stations for Hale Farm at 5:00 p.m. and the evening will come to a close at 9:00 p.m. The train departing the Rockside Station in Independence will be pulled by the visiting steam locomotive OC 1293.
