Dan Bern/Michael Fracasso

When: Mon., March 24, 8 p.m. 2014

Tapping into the root system first uncovered by Bob Dylan, Dan Bern could well be called a true bard. "I guess Bob Dylan was sort of the Dan Bern of the '60's,” he once said. Bern’s latest album, Songs of Fall, explores all sorts of modern American narratives. You’re either into Bern’s vocal and musical stylings or you’re not. This is well worn territory. and plenty of other singer-songwriters do this stuff much better. But songs like “Islamorada” “Birthday” break up the monotony pretty well. “Break Up the USA,” meanwhile, merges the political awareness of Dylan with the humorous talking-singing of Tom Lehrer. His live show is beloved by fans, granting a nice sense of interaction and banter between artist and crowd. (Sandy)
