Dark Star Orchestra

When: Sun., Feb. 9, 8 p.m. 2014

There are all sorts of ways to reignite the Grateful Dead’s legacy in 2014. Local revival acts abound, jam bands get together for Dead tribute nights, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead is making enticing waves (although note that, meanwhile, Furthur is now officially on hiatus). But Dark Star Orchestra remains a distinguished band that conjures the Dead in unique ways. The band rose up in 1997 in the wake of Jerry Garcia's untimely 1995 death. The idea was simple: Pick up Dead shows and perform the set list as it was written. Last year, DSO treated Cleveland to the May 21, 1977, show at the Lakeland Civic Center in Florida. Coalescing around a first set-closing “Scarlet Begonias” into “Fire on the Mountain,” the set list was just damn near perfect. Who knows what era the band will take us to tonight? (Sandy)

Price: $22.50 ADV, $25 DOS
