Though it might not sound like it, the Detroit Shoreway's Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration is a family-friendly affair. Kids love to join the Parade of Skeletons that features life-sized puppets and plenty of people in costume. Vendors will set up inside Cleveland Public Theatre's Parish Hall, and Gordon Square Arts District bars and restaurants will have specials. The event kicks off at 11 a.m., and the parade starts at 3:30 p.m. At 11 a.m., the Capitol Theatre will present a free showing of Calling Home the Dead (Llamar a los Muertos a Casa), film that provides an authentic look at Día de los Muertos as practiced in Pátzcuaro, Mexico. The theater will offer $1 off popcorn for anyone in Day of the Dead makeup. (Niesel)
