Dinosaur Jr./Shearwater

When: Tue., Oct. 23, 8 p.m. 2012

Since reuniting seven years ago, indie rockers Dinosaur Jr. have shown some serious resilience, especially when you consider that band mates Lou Barlow and J. Mascis had a bad falling-out when Barlow left the band to form Sebadoh in 1989. Barlow and Mascis reportedly still don’t get along great, but they’re in surprisingly good form on their latest studio effort, I Bet on the Sky, issued earlier this year. A phenomenal guitarist (and completely underwhelming singer), Mascis harnesses his noisy, Neil Young-inspired tendencies on tracks such as “Watch the Corners” and “Stick a Toe In.” Good stuff, even if it’s not as loud and unbridled as it once was.
