Donna the Buffalo

When: Thu., Dec. 13, 8 p.m. 2012

An extremely versatile band, Donna the Buffalo plays a little bit of everything. The group has dabbled in rock, folk and even reggae. Since the band formed in upstate New York in 1989, singer Jeb Puryear and Tara Nevins have composed over 180 songs. Their most recent album, 2008’s Silverlined, features the usual grab bag of musical genres, and many songs deal with pressing social issues. The band’s hippie attitude comes across clearly in songs such as “Garden of Eden,” a tune about how the world is destroyed and everyone should go back to original, perfect Garden of Eden. The song makes listeners aware of the destruction caused by war and advocates an end to such violence. But don’t think this show will be a somber affair. The band’s bluegrass roots and jam band approach guarantees a good time. (Abbey Christopher)
