Dr. John & the Nite Trippers

When: Tue., May 19, 8 p.m. 2015

The granddaddy of the bayou groove, Dr. John is playing better than ever these days. At 74, the pianist and guitarist is showing no signs of slowing down. Lately, he’s been riffing on old Satchmo tunes (“What a Wonderful World,” “Mack the Knife,” for instance). Allegedly, Louis Armstrong came to Dr. John in a dream and told him to "do my music your way." To the uninitiated, Dr. John’s roots lie on 1968’s Gris Gris, a spooky psychedelic album cut with thick Louisiana voodoo. Since then, the good doctor has become an icon canon of American rock ‘n’ roll. The Kent Stage will keep Dr. John’s vibe fairly intimate and excitable. (Sandy)
