Music Around Town

Eagles of Death Metal

When: Mon., Sept. 21, 8:30 p.m. 2015

Less a joke band than an ever-evolving musical collective, Eagles of Death Metal has always been sort of an anomaly on the rock circuit. The band’s two permanent members are Josh Homme (of Queens of the Stone Age renown) and Jesse Hughes, though Homme rarely goes on tour with the band. Dozens of musicians have performed as part of the live show (including Dave Grohl, Jack Black and Taylor Hawkins), making the tour something closer to a roving musical-comedy troupe with really great rock ‘n’ roll chops. Homme once described their sound as "bluegrass slide guitar mixed with stripper drum beats and Canned Heat vocals.” Their last album, 2008’s Heart On, is a great collection of upbeat rockers, and they’ll be releasing a new album next month. Tonight’s show should be a fun blend of the old and the new. (Eric Sandy)
