East Meets West

Chinese-American composer Chen Yi studied classical music as a child and was relocated during the Cultural Revolution of the 1960s. While living in the Chinese countryside, she learned of the traditional music that would influence her compositions. Chen’s work seamlessly integrates Chinese musical idioms with classical Western music practices and instrumentation. The composer will perform at the Cleveland Institute of Music New Music Ensemble concert, which will include music by George Crumb, and Donald Erb. The concert starts at 4:30 in Mixon Hall and admission is free. (Gonzalez)
