Eastern Promises

When: Thu., Sept. 19, 8:40 p.m. 2013

Robin Hood-style eco-terrorism takes center stage in The East, a 2013 thriller from writer/star Brit Marling (a performer on the brink of Chastainian acclaim). Marling plays an operative who works for a private security firm and goes undercover with a shadowy organization known as the East; the group terrorizes 1-percenters at the top of corporations which have harmed the environment. The film is reasonably gripping (like most films about deep undercover work), if incrementally implausible. True Blood hunk Alexander Skarsgard and Ellen Page co-star. It screens tonight at 8:40 at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque and again on Sunday at 8:15 p.m. Tickets are $9. (Allard)

Price: $9
