El Cid

Recently restored in 35mm print, the 1961 film El Cid centers on the title character (Charlton Heston), the 11th-century Castilian knight Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar famous for driving the Moors out of Spain. Director Martin Scorcese, who once called the movie "one of the greatest epic films ever made" helped spearhead its restoration. It screens at 7:30 tonight at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque, where it shows as part of the repertory theater's the Republicans are Coming program. Tickets are $12, $9 for Members.
