My "mediocre" opinion, above, on Jekyll's is based on a few dozen visits - patio, bar dining room... over the many years it's been open old and new (we live right up the street, a 5 minute walk, so hard to 100% avoid). The place doesn't have an identity (steakhouse? seafood place? Sushi place? Burger place?) The food should always be better than it is... Always. Seems like fodo is out of cans and boxes not housemade (it may have changed but server told me about bottled dressings etc in years past.. Not OK in this day and age...)

My love for ML Tavern is based on the same # of visits..... Great service. Best Caesar salad and pork chop and salmon and chicken ever.

I can't believe they are run by the same people. Why does none of the ML "good" rub off on Jekyll's??

Awful news. Jekyl's is so terribly mediocre and lowest common denominator. Hyde Park should fix that place before ever embarking on a new venture. Only hope:Their nearby ML Tavern, while never really catching on, is so much better than Jekyk's so they must have it in them to produce food food if they want to.

Great idea for that space and applaud them for pivoting vs leaving.

Also look forward to hearing more about "Bell & Flower - A Social Kitchen" (or so their trademark app says...).

Now, with that out if the way, what's the scoop on the apparent "Chagrin Tavern" which filed that LLC name right before demolition began on the former Gamekeeper's space in Chagrin Falls this month???? (A Zack Bruell spot was rumored, but ..)

I've read the new (chicken ala kingless menu, FYI) and am not quite sure how much things have really changed... Had it gone from upscale diner to burger joint - or vice versa - then maybe so... But the changes might be big to Katz Club - but not so much to the diners... Only thing I notice is the (continued) smallish menu...

Wonder if any work was done on the atmosphere - like the odd, quiet, jut-out from dining room - that had no music - but two tables - so you could hear the stranger next to you breath, swallow, chew, etch...

No mention of whether bar car is still running... or did it already stop. And unfortunate that crowds apparently weren't coming late - as the diner now shuts by 10 any night, some 9 - and closed 2 days a week (name another restaurant that does that...)

This reads "the place is in more trouble than stated" to me - though hope not...

Glad to have them in Chagrin Falls, down the street from my house.... That the cupcakes aren't all that good and that they take that time-saving/cheating step of squirting on the frosting instead of hand icing each cupcake like even massively successful/high volume bakeries like Sprinkles do, is my main gripe with them. But who am I?

You are an elitist, Doug Trattner. The Cheesecake Factory makes nearly everything on the lunch/brunch/dinner menu rom scratch, within their walls. This is no Applebees, with bagged product, etc...

I eat at Cheesecake 2 or 3 times a week, for reliably good and tasty food. When not there, you will find me at favorites of yours, like ML Tavern...

Give us a break with the Cheesecake hatred. Wasn't that local celeb chef fave Chris Hodgson at the bar the other night? That's all the validation the place needs for me.

Good article. People forget even with no population growth there are still 3.5 MM people within about an hour of downtown. Tons of growing cities like charlotte, Indy, Columbus have 1.5-2mm people. Will grow a long time to get to Cleve popukafiknl
