Fall Formal

8 p.m. Saturday, October 21. No cover, 21 and over/$5, 18-20. Lime Spider, 207 S. Main St., Akron, 330-762-2350.

After Ohio State-Michigan, our favorite autumn classic is the Lime Spider's Fall Formal. Sponsored by the retro boutique Revival and so-cool music shop (and Akron-scene benefactor) Square Records, this year's party features four decades of danceable, unironic music you'll wish they'd played at your prom. Technically, the event doesn't have a dress code. But everyone dressed to the nines last year (some in '70s garb, some decked out from '80s, and some in cocktail dress and double-breasted suits, which are timeless), and you'll want to look good in the photos -- Polaroid snapshots will be available for $1 a pop. You don't even have to pony up for an expensive pre-dance dinner; the kitchen will be open, serving the Spider's famous teppanyaki-style gourmet grilled cheese. And the club will be decorated for the enchanted evening, filled with glitter and balloons. "Don't you/Forget about me/ Don't/Don't/Don't/Don't . . ."
