Yes, we know, Happy Dog, Happy Dog, Happy Dog. We love us some hot dogs, 50 toppings, and tater tots, too. By all means, Happy Dog is a must-have cheap eat in Detroit Shoreway. But there are plenty of other joints slinging budget-friendly bites in the neighborhood, which has solidified its place as a one of Cleveland's best live/work/play enclaves. And then, of course, there's the food. Here are five of our favorite menu items under $10. — Jason Beudert
Pork Belly Sliders - $9
Located in the center of the Gordon Square Arts District, LUXE is the trendy restaurant that attracts foodies from all over the region. Sleek cowhide-upholstered seats with artistically inspired metalwork mirrors the attention to detail in the menu. The perfectly seared pork belly is cut thick and served atop a traditional slider bun. Topping the swine: jalapeno jam, butter lettuce and a unique tallegio cheese. Believe it or not, for $9 there are actually three sliders per order, complete with house-made garlic potato chips. Besides being a critically acclaimed restaurant, the patio is one of the best in Cleveland. And LUXE is dog-friendly, so if three sliders are too much, bring Fido with you to help.

Spice Kitchen & Bar
Mushroom Beignets - $8
The seasonally rotating menu at Spice is reason enough to make regular returns to one of Detroit Shoreway's newest additions. Locally sourced ingredients —like, locally sourced as in "grown on the roof" — are thoughtfully matched and paired. Before dinner, or as a snack on the way to another destination, try the mushroom beignets. Light, crispy, creamy and soft in the middle -- the bite-sized appetizer is a tribute to the glory of fried foods, and a showcase of mushroom delight.

Sweet Moses Treats
Sterling-Lindner Sundae - $7
Hot Chocolate - $2.75
Catty-corner from LUXE, you'll find Sweet Moses Treats. Prepare yourself to step back 70 years to an original soda fountain and treat shop. Besides making their own ice cream and confections, they even home make their own pop and root beer. A seasonal treat named the Sterling-Lindner Sundae will run you just $7. A tribute to Cleveland's legendary department store, this sundae starts with peppermint stick ice cream topped with homemade hot fudge, a snowy mound of whipped cream, and a decorated "Christmas tree" cone right in the middle. Enough to split with a pal, it's also cheap enough to leave you some cash for one of the best hot chocolates you'll ever sip, with homemade chocolate and warm coconut milk to create a uniquely delicious drink.

The Parkview Nightclub
BBQ Pork Platter - $10
This family-friendly estabSmoking meats is a real art form. Only a select few have the culinary dedication it takes to produce the properly smoked proteins. Detroit Shoreway lays claim to one: the legendary Parkview Nite Club. There is a reason why the Food Network filmed here. Isn't that the bar that has great live music? You would be right in that assumption, but the kitchen is just as much a headliner as their live music. Owner Mike Plonski and self-named "wing woman," aka wife Krissy, are the nuts and bolts of this operation. Their commitment to BBQ is evident in the BBQ pork platter. The pork butt is smoked slow and low, topped with house-made BBQ sauce, and is competition-worthy.

XYZ the Tavern
Chicken and Waffles - $10
Great beer, great whiskey selection, and great food. And while the majority of XYZ's offerings are under $10, head straight for the chicken and waffles, a Southern staple that only sounds weird if you've never tried it before. XYZ's version would rival the great Gladys Knight's chicken and waffles served in Atlanta, but are available right down street, so it'll save you some frequent flier miles. The batter is key, and Alan Glazen's Detroit Shoreway outpost stays country-style batter. Savory gravy works magically with the sweet Ohio maple syrup, but don't forget the hot sauce -- the key to the trinity of taste.
