When: May 27-June 30 2012
You’re gonna want a bigger umbrella this weekend, once those giant pterosaurs start soaring through the Great Lakes Science Center. But don’t worry: Their state-of-the-art antics will be confined to the Omnimax Theatre, where they’re starring in the new 3-D movie, Flying Monsters! Produced by filmmaker Anthony Geffen, narrated by renowned naturalist Sir David Attenborough, and distributed by National Geographic Entertainment, the flick uses the same computer-generated effects you saw in Avatar to unravel the mystery of how beasts the size of giraffes ever sprouted wings. “It’s a wonderful way of seeing the world as the pterosaurs did,” Sir David says of the film. “They are the most unlikely of creatures, but they dominated the skies for millions of years. Now this film let’s us fly with them — the largest flying creatures the world has ever known!” Check the website for showtimes. Adult tix are $11; kids pay $9. Throw in another $8, and you get admission to the Science Center exhibits, too.
