Food & Culture Fest at the Maltz Museum

When: Sun., Aug. 12 2012

It’s yucks galore at today’s Jewish Food and Culture Festival, happening from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage. Among the highlights: a noon performance by the Workmen’s Circle Klezmer Orchestra; a 1:30 p.m. screening of the Marx Brothers’ classic Room Service; and plenty of noshes from spots like Corky & Lenny’s, Mister Brisket, and Aladdin’s Eatery. The festival is also a great opportunity to catch a 3 p.m. screening of the descriptively titled Old Jews Telling Jokes. Ribald, risqué, and ridiculously funny, the documentary is part of a comedy empire that includes an award-winning web series, a book, several audio recordings, and a 2012 off-Broadway revue. Just make sure the kids are immersed in the children’s activities on the lawn: The screening is adults-only. And you don’t have to be Jewish to enjoy it. Festival admission is free and includes access to all the museum’s galleries and exhibits. Food tickets are 50 cents each, with a $5 minimum purchase.
