French Flick

When: Thu., Oct. 17, 6:45 p.m. 2013

Originally banned in France, Jean-Luc Goddard's Le Petit Soldat (The Little Soldier) follows an Algerian War deserter (Michel Subor) who must kill an Algerian Liberation Front official in order to show his loyalty to France. Because of its controversial subject matter, the film didn't come out until 1963, three years after its initial release date. One reviewer maintains that if the movie had come out in 1960 as intended, it would have gone down as the Zero Dark Thirty of its generation. It shows at 6:45 tonight and at 9:35 tomorrow night at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque. Tickets are $9. (Niesel)
