Friends in Need

@cal body 2 no indent:In Old Joy, two thirtysomething pals go on a camping trip that’s as much about restoring their strained relationship as it is getting back to nature. Will Oldham (the mastermind behind the alt-country projects Palace Brothers and Bonnie Prince Billy) plays the rootless Kurt, who prepares for the weekend by replenishing his stash of weed. Daniel London’s Mark is weeks away from becoming a first-time father. The rest of this leisurely-paced indie film explores the chasm between them -- embodied by Kurt’s vagabond spirit and Mark’s periodically ringing cell phone. The connection they eventually make is a small one.
