Norwegian sax man Frode Gjerstad embraced free jazz well before his fellow countrymen did. Inspired by Clevelander Albert Ayler, he originally worked as a solo artist before performing with revered jazz artists like William Parker and Derek Bailey. For his current U.S. tour, bassist Jon Rune Strøm and drummer Paal Nilssen-Love join him onstage. Should be an evening of off-the-wall riffs with plenty of freewheeling improvisation. (Niesel)
