“There’s a party going on in the Flats — a different kind of a party,” says naturalist John Kolar. He’s talking about the “flats” of the upper Cuyahoga River near its Geauga County headwaters. “It’s such a beautiful stretch of river,” he says. “You can float for miles without seeing any signs of human habitation.” That creates the perfect environment for observing local wildlife — bullfrogs, beavers, herons, barn owls — which will be waking up just as participants hit the water for tonight’s Full Moon Canoe paddle. The Geauga Park District makes seven boats available for about 14 paddlers ages 10 and up. Meet at Eldon Russell Park at 8:30 p.m. for the 90-minute trip.
