Gay Old Time

Cleveland's LGBTs mark 20 years of closet-free queerness with party in the park.

As it honors Generations: 20 Years of Pride, Cleveland's gay community celebrates two decades of homoliciousness this weekend with its annual pride festival. The pre-fest partying starts tonight with a $20 women-only "bleep-tail cruise" on Lake Erie aboard the Goodtime III. Revelers then meet an hour later for the free "P-Word: Pre-Pride Party" at Anatomy, where DJ Freeze spins hi-NRG tracks between go-go dancing and wet T-shirt contests. After a night of revving up for the fest, dozens of bands, floats, and celebrity-chauffeured limousines line up at West Third Street and Rockwell Avenue for the noon high-step to the festival at Voinovich Park. Throughout the day, festgoers can stroll between three grandstands to watch performances by Canadian lesbi-songstresses Bitch & Ferron and local chanteuses like Alexis Antes, Robin Stone, and Early Girl. Cleveland's gay-friendly Blazing River Freedom Band teams with the Pride of Indy Band & Color Guard and Chicago's Lakeside Pride Band in concert, while drag royalty, fetish models, and the sultry Rubber City Bombshells of Akron work the crowd. The two-steppin' Rainbow Wranglers will even show off their latest country dance moves. The fest starts at 9 tonight on the Goodtime III, 825 East Ninth Street, 10 tonight at Anatomy, 1299 West Ninth Street, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Voinovich Park at the foot of East Ninth Street. Festival admission is $10. Call 216-371-0214 or visit
