At todays Walk & Rock, which kicks off at the Rock Hall, participants break a sweat for just about everybody under the sun. Thats the point of the Diversity Center of Northeast Ohios popular event, now in its fifth year. Diversity means everything -- gender, economic, physical, says Peggy Zone Fisher, the centers president. Its every ism you can imagine.
This years run includes a 5K for the first time. The Health & Wellness Pavilion also makes its debut, providing blood pressure and cholesterol screenings. Proceeds benefit diversity education in more than 150 local schools. Participants vie for commemorative T-shirts and sweatshirts, but everyones a winner, since contestants get to check out the Rock Hall and the neighboring Great Lakes Science Center for free all day. Traditional music and dance groups will also perform along the three-mile downtown route. It keeps the walkers pumped, says Fisher.
