Linebackers and fans raise stemware at HOF shindig.

“Football” and “party” usually mean Velveeta-smothered nachos and bottles of Bud Light. But at tonight’s Grapes of the Gridiron bash at the Pro Football Hall of Fame, revelers will eat and sip something a little more refined -- all in the presence of pigskin greats. “It definitely introduces different groups of people to each other,” says spokeswoman Terry Davis. “But wine, friends, and food are universal.”

More than two dozen tasting stations -- pairing delicacies like poached salmon and chardonnay -- will be set up throughout the museum. While experts talk about why this dry red goes so well with that gourmet cheese, Windwood will play live music, hosts will auction off sports-related memorabilia, and visitors can watch Tom Cousineau score an extra slice of carved beef at the buffet table. Other Browns alum -- like Jim Houston, Richard Mostardi, and Frank Stams -- will also be on hand. “It’s exciting for people to meet their favorite players in this setting,” says Davis. www.profootballhof.com for more information.
