Gov.t Issued

Gov't Mule frontman Warren Haynes doesn't think like other jam-band leaders. He doesn't play like typical southern-rock guitarists either. While his band clearly fits both genres, Haynes' dedication sets his work apart from those musical styles. Not that Gov't Mule isn't capable of stretching out boogie-stompin' solos. In concert, Haynes and his group reach that sacred point where even audience members who aren't on some sort of illegal substance can trip out on the sounds.

Gov't Mule is on tour with Donavon Frankenreiter, a pro surfer who moved to Hawaii and became pals with fellow singer-songwriter and surfer Jack Johnson. And it shows: Frankenreiter's latest album, Move by Yourself, has Johnson's breezy vibe. But where Johnson wrote the score for the Curious George movie, the hippie-looking Frankenreiter seems like he'd be more comfortable sharing munchies with Shaggy and Scooby.
