Grand River Ice Wine Festival

When: Sat., March 19 2011

You can sample ice wines from five Northeast Ohio wineries today from noon to 5 p.m., during the Eighth Annual Grand River Valley Ice Wine Festival. Ice wine is created from grapes that have frozen on the vine — making it perfectly suited to our climate. That's probably why the sweet dessert wine has become one of the region's most critically acclaimed products, and why a chance to compare the output of five separate makers could prove both enlightening and delicious. Featured wineries, all conveniently located within a few miles of each other, include Debonne Vineyards, Ferrante Winery & Ristorante, Grand River Cellars Winery & Restaurant, Laurello Vineyards, and St. Joseph Vineyards. At each stop along the route, $5 ($4, if you bring in a canned food item for local food banks) will snag you a wine sample, a snazzy app (no Cheez Whiz on crackers here!), and acess to a variety of special events, including ice-carving demos, cooking demos, and crafts from local artists.
