Hey kids: Turn off the Xbox, grab a ‘rent, and head to Parma’s James Day Park (11828 West Pleasant Valley Rd.) today for the Great Amazing Race for Youth. Modeled after the popular television series, the rain-or-shine event pairs teams of two — you plus one adult of your choosing — in a series of challenges across a one-mile cross-country course. (Teams compete in age divisions to ensure fairness.) While the twosomes race — or walk, or amble — against the clock, the real goal is fostering some inter-generational teamwork. “It’s easy and a great opportunity for kids to do something exciting with their parents or grandparents,” says race director Greg Benton. “No training required.” Choose from two start times: 1 or 3 p.m. Plan on showing up 45 minutes early to get your race packet. Online registration for a team of two is $40. Wait to register at the race and it’ll cost you $50. The winning team will be qualified for the National Championship Race and a chance to win $2,000.
