Hatebreed/Shadows Fall/The Acacia Strain/Battlecross

When: Wed., Oct. 9, 6:30 p.m. 2013

Hardcore heroes Hatebreed have somehow persevered for nearly 20 years now. Hard to imagine, given that the band’s aggressive style of metalcore is clearly no longer fashionable and its days of getting support from major record labels are over. Nominated for a Grammy in 2004 for “Live for This,” Hatebreed once appeared on the brink of mainstream success. The group even signed with heavyweight Roadrunner Records for 2006’s Supremacy. But the band never had more than a devout cult following. And yet that didn’t deter it. Even line-up changes at the end of 2009 didn’t derail the group. Its new album, The Divinity of Purpose, features the usual quotient of brutally heavy guitars, anti-authoritarian lyrics and parched vocals. (Niesel)
