Hidden Assembly

When: Fri., Aug. 26 2016

Following its nationally acclaimed RNC-related programming, SPACES is ready to unveil its latest projects. Opening today, Hidden Assembly explores the invisible production of the objects that populate our surroundings in a capitalist society. The project examines how factors such as global outsourcing, technological advances and the rise of precarious work have obscured or eliminated our perception of the creation of these everyday goods. It also explores how factors such as increasing geographic distance have obscured our view of global labor. Meanwhile, SPACES’ Vault presents Moving Anthropologies, videos by three Portuguese artists: Maria Lusitano, Mónica de Miranda, Rui Mourão. Curated by Mourão and José Carlos Teixeira, these videos present fragmented perspectives reflecting issues of memory, identity, history, otherness and cultural difference. Free. (Usmani)
