Seasonal Special Happenings

Hip-hop Hopes

When: Fri., Oct. 24 2014

A coming-of-age story about three teen rappers who live in a Midwest suburb called the Hill, playwright Idris Goodwin’s How We Got On has an uplifting message and provides some great grooves to go along with that message. With a theatre DJ looping, spinning and remixing live on stage, How We Got On will feature a great mix of music. “This season’s shows not only reflect our theme of “Legacy”, but also family and the value of the next generation, and no new play I’ve read better represents that value than How We Got On,” states CPH Artistic Director Laura Kepley in a press release. “The play celebrates loyalty, friendship and discovering your own voice in a world that doesn’t always listen to young people. It is one of the most joyous and uplifting plays I have ever read.” It opens tonight at 7:30 at the Outcalt Theatre. Tickets are $29 to $69, and the play continues through Nov. 16. (Niesel)
