Seasonal Special Happenings

Hypnotic Powers

When: Thu., Aug. 15, 7:30 p.m. and Fri., Aug. 16, 7:30 & 10 p.m. 2013

Hypnotism has been used to jog memories, help with anxiety and induce sleep, but can it also make you laugh? Comedian and professional hypnotist Gary Conrad thinks so. He’ll take the Improv stage today and put volunteers to sleep before making them do all sorts of odd acts. Conrad marches around the stage preaching like Jim Jones to his cult of ever-obedient soldiers. He instructs the victims— er, we mean volunteers — to hug and dance with the others on stage and he convinces them that there are bugs all over them. The imagery appears to be so vivid that they will strip off clothes in attempt to get rid of the bugs. Mythbusters have taught us that deep hypnosis like that is a myth, however, they did prove hypnosis to be effective in memory recovery, so there may be something to his act yet. Conrad will perform tonight at 7:30. Tickets are $15. He’s back at the Improv tomorrow night 7:30 and 10:15. And tickets for those shows are $17. (William Hoffman)

Price: $15-$17
