Punk Yoga at the Beachland

comment

On the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, the Beachland Ballroom transforms into an oasis of Zen and meditative restoration. Grab your mat and get ready to stretch, as instructor Lyz Bly takes you through the paces. Punk Yoga classes (which cost $13) are open to all skill levels, so it doesn't matter how well you bend, pose, and breathe. You'll end up with a nice healthy glow all the same. Bly espouses a vegan and healthy lifestyle, which doesn't sound very punk. But punk has a history of finding beauty in ugliness, an appreciation of darkness and decay. No surprise that hardcore practitioners of Tantric yoga view reality the exact same way. Dualities are a necessary part of the universe, and Punk Yoga celebrates diversity — in body, in breath, and in life. Besides, these Saturday-morning classes (which start at 11 a.m.) are a great way to burn off some of last night's PBRs. — Jara Anton
