As public schools debate removing cursive handwriting from their curriculum, hand lettering may not be a “lost art,” but it certainly is endangered. Fresh off her presentation at Weapons of Mass Creation Fest 8, acclaimed local hand letterer Lisa Lorek offers a workshop on hand lettering at TownHall from 7 to 9 tonight. Open to artists of all skill levels, participants will learn about typography, crafting and pairing lettering styles, forming compositions and additional tricks and tips from Lorek. By the end of the workshops, each participant will have crafted words and a quote to take home. Registration is $30 and includes all materials and complimentary flatbreads. To register online, visit the website. Born in Cleveland, Lorek graduated from the University of Dayton. She currently splits her time between her position as art director of Global Prairie and freelance work, including murals, magazine covers, coloring books and gallery shows. (Usmani)
